Found Sound: Waves


This sound edit creates a peaceful atmosphere. The sounds depict a beach with birds, a bonfire, and a group of friends chatting in the background. The sound of waves encompasses the edit as they bounce from ear to ear throughout. My idea for the project was to create a familiar comforting environment and add the unexpected element of traveling waves. The audio ended with just the sound of waves to illustrate an empty beach as the day comes to a close.

A hi-fi sound is when the system is “one in which discrete sounds can be heard clearly because of the low ambient noise level”. (Schafer, 43) Some examples of hi-fi sounds are the country and a library. Sounds overlap less frequently in a hi-fi soundscape compared to a low-fi soundscape.
